Do You Want to See More “FUN” Web Content for Midlifers?

July 14, 2011

I am a 40-something who spends a lot of time on the computer.  However, when I surf the web on my leisure, I find a severe lack of “fun” information targeted at our age group.  There are blogs, tutorials, and advice for everyone under 40, for every subject matter that could possibly interest them; but when it comes to our age group our options are limited to: retirement and health.  So I pondered the question “Why”?

Here are the stats on internet usage by age and race:

  • 58% of the internet population usage is Generation X (33-44 yrs. olds), Younger Baby Boomers (45-54 yrs. old), and Older Baby Boomers (55-63 yrs. old)
  • 7 out of 10 African Americans use social media
  • 51% of African Americans own a laptop
  • Nearly ½ of all black internet users go to a social networking site at least once daily
  • African Americans use social networking sites, neighborhood listservs, and blogs to keep up with local news and happenings

We dominate internet usage, yet fun and interesting content continues to go uncreated.   Do people think that all we care about is NOT getting old as opposed to enhancing the aging process with beauty and fashion tips?  That we are all married, divorced (and too old to be looking), or widowed; and too late in life to pursue love?  Do they really think we are either childless (because we are too old), empty nesters, or grandparents so no parenting advice is needed?

For these reasons and more, this site exists.  This blog will provide content that is informative, funny, and shot “straight from the hip”.  Midlife does not have to be a crisis; it is a time for re-evaluation, rejuvenation, and enlightenment…so pull up your big girl panties and LETS RIDE!!!!
